Did you hear? The City of Miami Beach just revealed this week that it had fined as much as $1.6 million residents renting out their properties through Airbnb, since March.
Let that sink in for a moment...
That's $1.6 million that has been confiscated from the hands of residents for being engaged in a harmless activity of renting out their properties for less than six months and a day.
We are the Libertarian Party and we are going to fight back. The City Commission of Miami Beach was elected in 2013 and 2015 with a platform of promoting user-based services like Uber, but has broken that promise now that it's cracked down on Big Hotel's largest competitor.
Chairman Maxwell Getz has called for the entire Libertarian Party of Miami-Dade County's leadership to get on board. And we will fight all the way until November 2017. We are going to lobby the City Commission, raise awareness, work with the victims of this terrible regulation and push public opinion in favor of free market competition.
If we can't persuade the local government to end the ban on Airbnb, we will take our arguments and our volunteers on a grassroots mission to go door-to-door and place a referendum on the ballots in November 2017.
The only thing we need from you is to help us pay for our fight.
You see, a simple donation of $25 can help our volunteers put 250 door hangers in Miami Beach. Anything donated can be put to good use, whether it involves printing petition papers or recording videos.
Please, will you help us? Donate now.
